It is the great privilege of Yew Wood Venues to welcome internationally acclaimed pianist Ivan Ilic to St. Mary’s Collegiate Church for this unique piano extravaganza.
Ivan Ilić is a Serbian-American pianist who has lived in France since 2001. He has visited Ireland regularly since his first festival appearance in Castletownshend, County Cork in 2004. This year he is embarking on a 2-week tour which will include ten events: concerts, masterclasses and a live broadcast on RTE Lyric FM on 24 May. Ivan has been popular with Irish audiences from the start, for his combination of fine artistry and relaxed stage manner. His spoken introductions make the concerts accessible and engaging for all audiences.
This year Ivan will present a programme including works by Beethoven, Haydn, and a Czech composer who knew both of them: Antoine Reicha. Beethoven and Reicha (RAY-ka) were friends and rivals, but while Beethoven’s piano music flourished, much of Reicha’s was left unpublished in France’s National Library. Ivan’s newest project is to allow audiences to rediscover Reicha’s exciting, innovative music, via concerts and recordings. His next CD, to be published in September by the prestigious British label Chandos, is also supported by Swiss National Radio and the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice.
Ivan is excited to play for audiences in Youghal, and explore Youghal’s harbour during his trip. “I’ve played throughout Ireland in the past few years, but I rarely have the opportunity to explore the coast, so I can’t wait to visit Youghal. West Cork is well known for live classical music, and there is no reason why East Cork shouldn’t enjoy the same. I’m especially looking forward to playing in St Mary’s Collegiate Church, a gorgeous venue.”
An exquisitely poised and expressive rendering…spellbinding.
