“Mundy in Concert”

WILL NOT now take place as planned.
Everybody please stay safe and stay well.

St Mary’s Collegiate Church, Youghal       Friday 19th June 2020 at 8pm      Tickets €20.00

St Mary’s Collegiate Church is thrilled to announce that Mundy, he of the unique voice will be in concert at St Mary’s Collegiate Church on Fri 19 June as Youghal celebrates the return of IRONMAN

Mundy was born Edmond Enright in the rural town of Birr, County Offaly.  In 1993, at the age of 18 Mundy moved to Dublin to take his place on the energetic busking circuit.

It was during this period and in the midst of heartbreak that Mundy penned some of his greatest hits including, ‘Gin & Tonic Sky’ & ‘Life’s A Cinch’.  These stirring tracks quickly secured Mundy a place on the roster of Sony’s Epic records as well as a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music.  Mundy’s first album ‘Jelly Legs’ was released in October 1996 to critical acclaim and went on to sell 50,000 copies.

However it was his visceral debut single ‘To You I Bestow’ that garnered most attention after it was licensed to appear on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’, this bestselling soundtrack went on to sell 11 million copies and introduced Mundy to the world.

Mundy has since gone on to release a further eight albums creating his own flavor of acoustic, folk-based pop/rock through his own record label ‘Camcor Records’ which he set up in 2000.  His album Raining Down Arrows went straight in to the Irish Charts at number 1, he has enjoyed gold and multi-platinum record sales and has picked up a number of awards including the Meteor Music award for ‘Best Male’ and ‘Most Downloaded Song’ 2 ears running for his rousing rendition of ‘Galway Girl’ featuring Irish traditional musician Sharon Shannon.

Mundy’s music has allowed him travel the world supporting some of the greats; bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, R.E.M, Oasis, White Stripes and the Pogues to name a few.  Most recently however, Mundy was invited to perform for perhaps his most prestigious audience to date, i the White House for president Barrack Obama as part of their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Mundy certainly has an impressive CV but there is no sigh of the Offaly man slowing down touring Ireland, UK, Europe, North America, Australia and Asia.  He is currently back in the studio working on a new album for release in 2020.

Tickets for Mundy’s Youghal concert are available at 087 9593276 or online through Eventbrite.  Tickets will be on sale at Cree’s Card Shop, Youghal closer to the date.  For updates please like Yew Wood Venues, our face book page.

Feb 7th 2017   –   “Green & Blue” by Laurence McKeown  –  The Mall Arts Centre  –  8.00pm

Directed by: Paula McFetridge
Produced by: KABOSH
Cast: Vincent Higgins and James Doran.

Third presentation in Youghal of the 2017 Blackwater Valley Fit-Up Theatre Fesival,  “Green & Blue”  explores the painful and humorous realities faced by the individuals who patrolled the border during the height of the conflict.  “At one point we took on a role that became an identity and that identity now defines us. We’re a uniform, not real people  and rightly or wrongly we now view the world from that perspective.”
Based on an oral archive of serving RUC and An Garda Síochána officers, the production fuses theatre and film to look at the person behind the uniform and the different experiences of two individuals on either side of a line in the ground.
Each performance will be followed by a facilitated discussion.

What is striking is the power of the play to engage with the audience with reflections on the border and identities” – Northern Ireland Foundation
A drama of substantial insight and revelation… a life affirming celebration of the end of the dark days of a hard border” – The Reviews Hub
Green & Blue is a thoughtful, challenging and entertaining dramatisation of an oral history, casting light on police officers lives as they saw it” – Culture Northern Ireland
